How To Make Pizza On The Griddle Surface

Since a griddle is different from an oven, a lot of people are skeptical that you can actually cook a pizza on it.

But the truth is that you can cook a pizza on the griddle surface.

The most important thing to remember is to use enough oil on the griddle so that your pizza bottom doesn’t stick or burn.

But, as a Blackstone owner, I’m assuming that you already got that thing properly seasoned so that you don’t even have to worry about food sticking to it.

Now, I’m assuming that you are making a pizza from scratch instead of using a frozen pizza, so that’s the directions that I’ll be giving you.

Step 1: Make Your Pizza Dough

You can do this however you normally do.

I have an Oster bread maker, and for the dough, I just used the recipe for 2lbs of pizza dough.

While the dough is kneading/proofing, you can move on to the next step.

Step 2: Pre-cook any veggies or meats

If you’re making a pizza with something like ground beef, then go ahead and use your griddle to cook that meat.

The same applies with any veggies that you intend to put on the pizza.

Chop those veggies and then cook them up to soften them on the Blackstone.

Once these are all cooked up, I suggest scooping them up into a bowl and setting to the side.

And don’t forget to scrape the griddle clean once you’re done.

Step 3: Put the pizza dough on the griddle

Now, take the finished dough and toss/roll it to desired shape/size.

Place it on the griddle, at a medium to medium-high heat, and shape it up some more, as needed.

If your Blackstone has a lid, then close it for the dough to cook up into the perfect pizza crust base.

Keep an eye on the underside of the crust so that it doesn’t get too done.

I like to flip it once I see that it’s at a good level of doneness and then crisp up the other side a bit as well.

Overall, this should only take between 10 to 15 minutes, depending on how thick of a crust you have on the griddle.

Step 4: Add your toppings

Now, add your sauce and other toppings to the pizza crust and top with cheese.

Then, close the hood to let the cheese get all melty and yummy.

Since the other toppings are already cooked, you really only need to melt the cheese.

Step 5: Remove from griddle and enjoy

Once the cheese is melted to perfection, you can remove the pizza from the Blackstone griddle and slice it up to serve.

And prepare yourself, because pizza made on the Blackstone is really good.

Did Blackstone Discontinue The Pizza Oven?

If you’re not new to the Blackstone, then you may remember that they actually used to sell a Blackstone branded pizza oven.

And if you’ve been on the lookout for one, then you may have discovered that you cannot find a new one.

That is because the Blackstone pizza oven was discontinued by the company.

Personally, I’ve never used the Blackstone pizza oven, but I’m perfectly happy with the results I get from making a pizza on the griddle.

Who knows, maybe that is why they gave up on it and stopped making it.
